Sports massage is employed in the treatment of painful conditions or injuries involving soft tissue, muscles, tendons & ligaments. It is a very deep therapeutic massage, tracking muscles from origin to insertion.

Sports massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue and is used to release chronic patterns of muscular tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction, applied across the grain of the muscle. A Sports massage will help loosen muscle tissues, release toxins and improve circulation and range of joint movement. It aids the recovery of scar tissue, hypertonic tendons & muscle atrophy.
Sports massage can be used as a precursor to physical activity to energize and warm up the body or after physical activity to help in eliminating metabolic wastes and help muscle tissue to regain its normal elasticity. It can treat a very specific problem resulting from repetitive sports movements or strength and flexibility imbalances between different muscle groups.
The practitioner will treat problem areas in different ways, including soft tissue release, neuromuscular release, deep tissue work, trigger point therapy & active & passive stretching exercises.
Trigger points are tiny contractions of muscle fibres in a very small band of muscle tissue. They can feel like a knot or a small lump ranging in size, lying along a taut band of muscle fibres. Trigger points can be painful when treated, but the pain goes within 15 - 20 seconds & is helpful in promoting relief from referred pain.
The practitioner may also use audio-sonic or paraffin wax as part of the treatment.

"I can highly recommend sports massage therapy. After being treated by various physios and chiropractors over the years for a long-standing back problem with no success, Susanne has provided the best treatment that I have found – giving me relief from pain and being able to explain how posture and the different muscles affect each other."
